Fever’s Fire Fizzles in Hollywood Despite Mitchell’s Milestone Night
The Indiana Fever’s five-game win streak came to a sizzling halt on Tuesday night in Los Angeles, as the red-hot Sparks shot their way to a 100-91 victory. Despite a blazing 34-point performance from Kelsey Mitchell — a night that pushed her over the 4,500 career point milestone — Indiana couldn’t complete a late-game rally.
The Fever started strong with crisp passing and aggressive drives to the hoop, but LA answered every move with precision. A second-quarter surge by the Sparks sent the home team into halftime up 54-43, and they extended the lead to as much as 22 before Indiana launched a fierce 18-2 fourth-quarter run to pull within six. Unfortunately, the buzzer sounded before the Fever could finish the comeback.
Mitchell’s 34-point night tied her with franchise legend Tamika Catchings for the most 30-point games in Fever history, marking her third this season alone. Aliyah Boston added six field goals and came just one rebound shy of her seventh straight double-double. Natasha Howard made her 250th career WNBA start, adding leadership and toughness to the lineup.
The loss drops the Fever to 17-13, but they remain firmly in the playoff race as they wrap up their four-game road trip Thursday night against the Phoenix Mercury. The tip is set for 10 p.m. ET with national coverage on Amazon Prime Video.
