Walk-Off Wrigley: Turner’s Trot Lifts Cubs Over Orioles
Justin Turner provided the Wrigleyville fireworks on Sunday, delivering a pinch-hit walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth to send the Cubs to a 5-3 win over the visiting Baltimore Orioles.
After Dansby Swanson reached on an error to lead off the inning, Turner stepped up and crushed the first pitch he saw into the ivy-covered seats. It was Turner’s third long ball of the year and one of the most clutch swings of the season for a Cubs team trying to chase down Milwaukee in the NL Central.
Chicago took the series, two games to one, and now sits just two games back of the division-leading Brewers.
The Orioles’ defense proved costly, with two errors contributing to three unearned runs. Baltimore tied the game in the top of the ninth on a Ryan Noda pinch-hit single, but couldn’t hold the line against Turner’s heroics.
Next Up: Michael Soroka makes his Cubs debut Monday against Cincinnati, while the Orioles continue their road trip in Philadelphia.
