Incident with gun leads to nearly 17 year prison sentence

A man is headed to prison after being convicted on charges involving a gun in Bartholomew County.

According to the Bartholomew County Prosecutor’s office, Columbus police arrested Michael A. Powers on felony changes in December of unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon and criminal recklessness.

On Tuesday, he was convicted on both charges and also admitted to violating his probation in a separate case. He had almost nine years remaining on his probation which was revoked by the Indiana Department of Correction.

Superior Court 1 Judge Jim Worton sentenced Powers to 16 years and nine months in prison Tuesday.
