Brewers Crack Cubs with Vaughn’s Slam in Cream City Rout

Milwaukee continues to mash in the dog days of summer, and Tuesday night was no exception. Andrew Vaughn erupted for a career-high six RBIs—including a grand slam bomb—as the Brewers pummeled the Cubs 9-3 to strengthen their grip on the NL Central.
Vaughn’s 409-foot slam broke the game wide open in the sixth, helping Milwaukee win for the 15th time in 18 games. He’s been on a tear since being called up in early July, already notching 21 RBIs—a mark surpassed only by Kyle Schwarber during that stretch.
The Cubs, meanwhile, wasted multiple scoring chances, grounding into double plays and striking out in key spots. Nico Hoerner’s three-hit night and solo shot provided a spark, but it fizzled as the Brewers’ bullpen slammed the door shut.
Milwaukee now sits two games ahead of the Cubs in the standings and will send Freddy Peralta (12-4, 2.81 ERA) to the hill Wednesday looking for the sweep. Chicago counters with Shota Imanaga (7-4, 3.12 ERA).
