Two-county police chase ends with Saturday arrest

A suspect was arrested Saturday after a multi-county police chase starting in Seymour ended near Walesboro.

According to the Seymour Police Department, officers noticed a speeding car heading west on U.S. 50 at about 5:15 a.m. Saturday morning. Police caught up to the vehicle and turned on their emergency lights, but instead of stopping, the driver raced away. Police chased the vehicle into the downtown area, before the car headed north on State Road 11 and then onto Interstate 76.

The vehicle eventually slid off of the road near the Walesboro exit, where the driver jumped out of the vehicle and ran away.

Police found the driver along the intestate about three miles to the south and he ran away again, this time into a nearby field.

Columbus police and Bartholomew County deputies joined the search bringing drones and police dogs. The driver was soon found hiding in some thick brush.

27-year-old Brandon Thomas of New York was taken into custody. He is facing a felony charges of resisting law enforcement using a vehicle and misdemeanor charges of resisting law enforcement on foot and operating a vehicle while suspended with prior incidents.
