Late Collapse Sinks Reds in 10-Inning Heartbreaker
A rollercoaster night in Cincinnati ended in heartbreak for the Reds, who saw a late lead vanish as the Mariners walked off with an 11-7 win in 10 innings.
Jake Fraley sent Great American Ball Park into a frenzy with a grand slam in the 8th to give the Reds a 7-5 lead. But Cal Raleigh and Randy Arozarena went back-to-back in the top of the 9th to even the score before Arozarena struck again in extras with a 2-run double.
Despite Austin Hays’ early homer and a strong rally, the Reds’ defense faltered with four errors—including two more from Elly De La Cruz—paving the way for the loss.
Cincinnati turns the page quickly and travels to Baltimore Friday night with Andrew Abbott set to toe the rubber.
