Jets Launch Early, Shut Out Lancers in Five-Inning Blowout
Hauser baseball returned to action Thursday after a nine-day layoff and immediately ignited the offense, overwhelming visiting Edinburgh 13-0 in a five-inning Mid-Hoosier Conference contest.
The Class A No. 5-ranked Jets blasted off with eight runs in the bottom of the first inning, setting the tone with a barrage of early hits. Hauser tallied 10 hits in the first two innings alone, keeping the pressure on Lancers starter Ayden Swallows, who struggled to find the strike zone and saw nearly every Jet in the lineup reach base.
Left-handed ace Simeon Wasil and right-hander Kam Blair combined to record 14 strikeouts out of 15 total outs. Wasil started and set the tone early before Blair entered in his first appearance of the season, continuing the dominant performance on the mound. Edinburgh’s offense managed just two hits, both off the bat of Silas Cooney.
Offensively, Hauser’s bottom of the order delivered a spark. Kase Meister went 2-for-2 with three RBIs out of the ninth spot, and Peyton Bennett matched that with a 2-for-2 effort of his own. R.J. Foster chipped in with a triple to continue his early-season surge.
Hauser improved to 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in conference play. The teams are scheduled to face off again Friday night in Edinburgh.
