North Girls Tennis Outlasts Seymour for Second Straight Win
The Columbus North girls tennis team improved to 2-0 on the season with a narrow 3-2 win over Seymour at home on Thursday evening.
Aya Saad continued her dominant play at No. 1 singles, dispatching Ava Sunbury in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. Lucy Bergman followed suit at No. 2 singles with a convincing 6-0, 6-2 win over Gabby Cornn.
The decisive third point came from the No. 2 doubles team of Grace Conner and Nino Akakalata, who held off a strong Seymour challenge to win 6-0, 7-5.
In a pair of tightly contested matches, Ayana Umemura fell in a super-tiebreaker at No. 3 singles, and Annabelle Sun and Lizzie Bodart were edged in three sets at No. 1 doubles.
With the victory, the Bull Dogs have now secured consecutive 3-2 match wins to open their season and will continue their early-season momentum on the road in their next match.
