Crimson Pride Men’s Basketball Narrowly Falls in Historic Shootout
The IU Columbus men’s basketball team came painfully close to notching its first-ever River States Conference win Tuesday but ultimately fell to IU Southeast in a high-scoring thriller, 100-96. South Decatur alum Lane Lauderbaugh led the Grenadiers with 36 points and nine rebounds, helping them erase a 54-48 halftime deficit.
The Crimson Pride’s Owen Law, a Jennings County graduate, put on a stellar performance with 27 points, seven rebounds, and three assists. Columbus East alum Ben Sylva contributed 20 points and six rebounds, while Damontae Thompson added 21 points. Despite their efforts, IU Columbus couldn’t withstand IU Southeast’s late-game rally.
The IU Columbus women’s basketball team struggled against IU Southeast, falling 106-35. They kept pace early, trailing only 23-20 after the first quarter, but were outscored 83-15 the rest of the way. Jacelyn Starks led with 13 points, while Trinity Tatlock grabbed nine rebounds. Both teams will regroup for a home doubleheader against Alice Lloyd on Saturday.
