One Dead After Fatal Crash

Monday Afternoon Bartholomew County deputies responded to a report of a single vehicle accident in the 13000 block of S 100 W. The caller said that they observed smoke in the area and went to investigate where it was coming from and found a vehicle engulfed in flames. The vehicle appeared to have been in a collision with a tree near the roadway.

When deputies arrived on scene, they were unable to see within the vehicle or get close enough to enter the vehicle. The responding deputies used three fire extinguishers however, were unable to put the fire out. Southwest Volunteer Fire Dept and Wayne Twp Fire Dept arrived on scene and extinguished the fire. A single occupant was found deceased inside the vehicle.

The Accident Reconstruction Team responded to the scene to conduct their investigation which is ongoing. The identity of the victim will be released by the Bartholomew County Coroner’s Office.
