Sheriff warns of dangers for driving without insurance
Bartholomew County deputies have been encountering so many drivers without proof of insurance that the sheriff wants to remind residents that you have be insured to be on the road legally.
Sheriff Matt Myers says that there are too many drivers choosing to fly under the radar by driving uninsured. Up until now, having no insurance didn’t affect a driver in a crash, as long as they were not at fault.
But starting this month, Indiana state law limits how much an uninsured driver may recover, even if they were not at fault.
Myers says that if your vehicle is stopped by a police officers, you need to provide proof of insurance, your driver’s license and registration if asked. If you don’t have the paperwork when you are asked for it, your vehicle could be towed from the scene.
