Woman accused of stealing mother’s phone during fight

North Vernon police are accusing a woman of battering her mother and then stealing her phone.

Police were called to the incident in the 700 block of Pierce Street at about 12:45 p.m. Saturday afternoon after a woman reported that her adult daughter was battering her. The victim said that she and 20-year-old Allyssa Staples of North Vernon were having an argument and then Staples attacked her. When Staples found out police had been called, she allegedly held her mother down and took her phone.

When police caught up to Staples, she was still carrying the phone. She is facing preliminary charges of robbery, domestic battery and theft.
